Karma & Gasless Execution
Status Network is the first reputation-based Layer 2, where execution is gasless, spam protection is cryptographic, and funding comes from productive capital rather than transaction fees. At the centre of this model is Karma — a soulbound token that determines each user's free transaction throughput and governance power.
Orvex is a native launch application on Status Network and receives a direct Karma allocation, which it deploys across three strategic pillars: user rewards, protocol automations, and governance influence.
What is Karma?
Karma is a soulbound (non-transferable) ERC-20 token on Status Network. It cannot be bought, sold, or transferred — only earned through contribution.
Your Karma balance determines:
- Gasless throughput — How many free transactions you can submit per day
- Governance power — Voting weight over how Status Network's native yield pool is allocated
- Reputation — Your standing in the network, earned through sustained participation
Gasless throughput tiers
Every transaction on Status Network is gasless by default. Your Karma balance determines how many free transactions you get per day:
| Tier | Karma | Txns / Day | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Entry | 1 | 2 |
| Newbie | 1–50 | 6 | |
| Basic | 50–500 | 16 | |
| Core | Active | 500–5K | 96 |
| Regular | 5K–20K | 480 | |
| Power | 20K–100K | 960 | |
| Advanced | Pro | 100K–1M | 10,080 |
| High-Throughput | 1M–5M | 108,000 | |
| S-Tier | 5M–10M | 240,000 | |
| Legendary | 10M+ | 480,000 |
Most Orvex users will sit in the Core range (Active–Power). Regular swapping, LP management, and weekly gauge voting easily earn enough Karma to reach these tiers.
Getting started: Complete a one-time captcha verification to receive 1 Karma, unlocking Entry tier (2 free transactions per day). From there, using Orvex earns you more Karma, progressively unlocking higher tiers.
If you exhaust your daily gasless quota, you can still transact by paying a premium gas fee (10–100x standard L2 gas). This provides a pressure valve for burst demand while keeping the base case free.
How Orvex uses its Karma allocation
As a native Status Network application, Orvex received a direct Karma allocation at genesis. This allocation is deployed across three pillars:
1. Rewarding LPs and veORVX voters
Orvex distributes a portion of its Karma to participants through pool incentives:
- Liquidity providers earn Karma alongside oORVX emissions when staking positions into gauges
- veORVX voters earn Karma for directing emissions to productive pools
This means active Orvex participants progressively earn higher gasless throughput and Status Network governance power — on top of their normal oORVX rewards and voter fees.
2. Protocol-level automations
Orvex uses Karma to power protocol-level automations that improve UX for all users:
- Auto-compounding strategies
- Automated liquidity rebalancing
- Smart routing optimisations
- Gauge management operations
By spending its own Karma on these operations, the protocol handles complex actions behind the scenes — users benefit from better execution without needing high Karma tiers themselves.
3. Status Network governance influence
Orvex retains a significant Karma allocation to participate in Status Network governance. This allows the protocol to:
- Direct native yield toward Orvex LP incentives, creating an additional reward layer for liquidity providers
- Influence network parameters that affect gasless execution and DeFi infrastructure
- Advocate for the Orvex ecosystem in Status-level governance decisions
This creates a flywheel: Orvex governance influence directs more yield toward its LPs, which attracts more liquidity, which generates more activity, which strengthens Orvex's position in the network.
How you earn Karma through Orvex
Beyond the Karma distributed directly by Orvex, users also earn Karma from Status Network's ongoing emission schedule:
- Provide liquidity — Deposit into Orvex pools to earn Karma from the network's 60% liquidity & apps emission bucket
- Trade actively — Regular swaps and DEX usage contribute to Karma accrual
- Stake SNT — Staking SNT into Status Network earns Karma from the 35% SNT staking bucket (independent of Orvex)
- Complete verifications — Captcha and zkID verifications unlock initial Karma
An active liquidity provider can expect to reach the Power tier (960 free transactions/day) within two weeks of regular participation.
Dual governance
Orvex participants engage with two complementary governance layers:
| Layer | Token | Governs | How to Participate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orvex protocol | veORVX | Gauge weights, oORVX emissions, pool incentives | Lock ORVX → vote on gauges |
| Status Network | Karma | Native yield allocation, network parameters, tier thresholds | Earn Karma through contribution |
These layers reinforce each other. veORVX holders who actively govern Orvex earn Karma, giving them influence over the broader Status ecosystem. Orvex's own Karma allocation lets it direct Status-level yield back toward its LP incentive programmes.
Spam protection and slashing
Gasless execution is protected by a two-layer system:
-
Tier-based rate limiting — Exceeding your daily quota temporarily suspends gasless access. No Karma is lost. You can still transact by paying premium gas.
-
RLN cryptographic enforcement — Exceeding the global rate limit triggers zero-knowledge-based detection. Violators lose 100% of their Karma, which cannot be bought back — it must be re-earned through genuine participation.
This makes abuse costly in proportion to the attacker's ambition. The higher the tier someone exploits, the more time and contribution they lose when caught.
